Monastery Restoration Project

Help restore the splendor and preserve the story of a 14th century monastery that was used by God in the 16th century as a key location for the Spanish Reformation.

Several monks from the monastery of San Isidoro del Campo in Santiponce (Sevilla, Spain), including Casiodoro de Reina and Cipriano de Valera, worked together in the 16th century to translate and publish the first Spanish Bible for mass distribution across Spain, Europe, and the former Spanish colonies. Valera wrote in 1588, «if one day God were to have mercy on Sevilla, it would only be right that this monastery of San Isidoro del Campo might one day become a university chiefly for the study of theology.» This prayer has been on the minds of Spanish evangelicals who form part of the ABRE Foundation and the Sevilla Theological Seminary, both ministry partners with Liebenzell USA.

Every Protestant country has its landmark: Germany has the door of All Saints’ Church where Luther nailed his 95 Theses, Geneva has John Calvin’s church where so many were trained and found refuge, and Spain has the San Isidoro del Campo monastery in Seville whose monks became Protestants and later fled from the Spanish Inquisition. It was the hope and prayer of these monks that God would someday turn the monastery into a seminary and university, but for almost 500 years now, this has merely remained a dream. However, it appears that the Lord is opening a door to let Seville Theological Seminary enter the monastery: an unprecedented change! If we raise the funds, the building will function as a seminary, museum, conference center, and reception house for the many Spanish-speaking Protestants who travel from all around the world to visit the monastery. Would you please prayerfully consider giving to this historic cause?
