About Pacific Islands University
PIU is a unique educational institution, located on a “Where’s that?” island, serving several “never heard of them” people groups. To get to PIU from the US Mainland, go to Hawaii and keep going for another 4,000 miles.
Micronesia, the region Pacific Islands University serves, is the size of the continental United States, but all the land put together in Micronesia would be smaller than the State of Rhode Island. More than 400,000 people live there.
PIU is the only accredited Evangelical Institution of higher learning in Micronesia. In recent years the student body of PIU has been made up of students from The Republic of Marshall Islands; several states of The Federated States of Micronesia–Pohnpei, Chuuk, and Yap: The Republic of Palau; The Republic of Korea; and Guam, Texas, Saipan, and California in the USA.
PIU was started forty-two years ago by Liebenzell Mission. Several LM USA missionaries, including Mike & Samantha Owen, Joyce Owen, and Gary & Dot Houde, continue to serve at PIU. LM USA missionary and former president of PIU, Howard Merrell observes, “Micronesia is a region subject to earthquakes and typhoons. Those are insignificant compared to the social changes rocking the people of Micronesia. All over Micronesia, in church, government, and business, PIU grads serve in key leadership positions. The need for leaders guided by a Biblical worldview has never been greater.”
Your donation to PIU will help meet the vision of educating and preparing leaders, in and around Micronesia, who are guided by a Biblical worldview.
Accredited, Affordable, Accessible degree programs for the purpose-driven in Micronesia.
