About the Merrell’s
Howard and Kathy Merrell spent most of their adult lives in small-town church ministry, where they were privileged to lead Covington Bible Church into significant mission endeavors, including partnering with LMUSA. After they retired from CBC, an unexpected call led them to serve at Pacific Islands University (PIU), a small Christian college serving the people of Micronesia, from its campus in Guam. PIU continues the work started by a past generation of pioneer Liebenzell missionaries, who evangelized and planted churches in Chuuk, Palau, and Yap. Howard served as President of the school, while Kathy served as campus host, mentor to the women students, and receptionist. Both Kathy and Howard were also privileged to teach as part-time instructors.
Now, back in the U.S., Howard and Kathy have taken on a role in offering member care to LMUSA missionaries. Believing the local church is vital to Great Commission ministry, the Merrells are available to call on their lifetime of experience to help and challenge churches to mobilize missionaries and their supporters to “go and make disciples of all nations.” Howard and sometimes Kathy travel to visit with missionaries and promote the work of LMUSA. The Merrells do not receive a salary from LMUSA. They use their LMUSA fund for ministry expenses, including sending birthday gifts to LMUSA missionary kids. They invite you to partner with them in investing in the well-being of the LMUSA missionary family.
The Merrell’s have two sons, and seven grandchildren, all of whom live in mainland USA
